1. What is Raj Green sandstone?

Raj Green Indian sandstone is a type of Indian sandstone distinguished by its rich earthy shades. The gentle greens it’s named for are actually part of a surprisingly complex colour scheme, and they’re complemented by subtle greys, browns, golds, and even muted plum tones that run through the blend. These neutral colours and textures all combine to give Raj green Indian sandstone a luxurious and subtly detailed appearance, making it the perfect fit for rural or traditional surroundings.

Like all Indian sandstone paving, Raj Green natural paving stones are strong and durable, and they weather naturally under the elements, allowing them to blend seamlessly into your space. Raj Green Indian sandstone has a naturally rough texture, and comes from genuine Indian quarries, in this case from mines in Middle India.

2. Should you seal Raj Green sandstone?

We always personally recommend sealing Raj Green Indian stone paving here at Bridge Street Stone, as it helps to maintain its pristine appearance for longer. In fact, we’d recommend doing the same for any Indian sandstone paving slabs.

This is mainly because Raj Green Indian sandstone is porous by nature. Its surface can be easily penetrated by moisture, so it can be stained or marked by liquid unless it’s been sealed in advance. To prevent this sort of damage, we recommend HG Impregnator as a standard treatment, so that it can be protected against the penetration of dirt and grease stains, or Nexus colour enhancing sealer. If you require any more detailed or specific advice for your own paving stones, don’t hesitate to let us know - we’re only too happy to provide it!

3. Why is Raj Green sandstone so popular?

Raj Green Indian sandstone is one of the most popular types of paving stone, as it’s perfect for indoor and outdoor spaces including patios, pathways and driveways. It’s particularly well suited to outdoor spaces due to the way its neutral tones blend easily into greenery and natural spaces. Its tonal variations of brown, grey, gold and purple can provide a beautiful offset to brick walls, sprawling lawns or wooden garden furniture - just to name a few!

What’s more, Raj Green Indian sandstone shares the same core set of advantages as all other types of Indian sandstone. It’s affordable, great value, and hardwearing, making it highly resilient to the elements all year round as long as it’s cared for properly. It also provides almost endless design possibilities, giving you plenty of freedom to find or design a laying pattern that suits your space down to the ground.
